Jaime Vial

Self-proclaimed "autodidactic" sculptor Jaime Vial's work speaks of the eternal human condition. Vial's simple lines and rounded forms equally incorporate positive and negative space to create an enduring rendition of universality. After three years studying architecture at Finis Terrae University, Vial committed himself to a career as a professional fine artist and sculptor. Vial's sculpture examines the existentialism in their surrealistic abstraction. His use of the iconic female form speaks to a maternal character, eternal and multicultural. The artist's fascination with Sartrianism is also an underlying theme in his work. "Using the metal like a way of communication, I submerge in my mind to represent some ideas, escaping from the traditional practices and breaking the systematic works," notes the artist. Vial currently works mainly with bronze, and has worked, in the past with renowned sculptor Palolo Valdés.
