Art forms are unique to the individual as stars in the sky. For for the painter, abstract art is an art form where one can engage in the moment and express visions or emotions unbound by restrictions. Very recently I was asked, "Where does the inspiration come from to create what you have never seen before? To that I answered, "From within." In the silent spaces of the mind, where inspiration swells and improvisational enactments unfold like a jazz musician, the abstract artist is at the helm of visual creation. Emotions in their work are born the very moment their artistic language is put down, laid out, reworked, and accidentally found. The abstract artists can explore layers of paint like layers of themselves, exposing what it is to be free.
The creation of color, line, and texture is only part of what the world could possibly see in abstract art. There is another, deeper, greater force behind abstract art that is in reality so very simple. It is the delight in creativity, a celebration of the present moment and an awareness that the soul longs to let it flow through. Freedom, very much like the freedom of a child exposes itself in this manner. It brings the artist to a place where time melts away and understanding is not important. This inner playful child is reveled in the discovering of the hidden and experiencing the discovered. It is this very basic and innocent expression that manifests itself when the abstract artist is free to create.
